1999 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLTR – Full Teardown | Custom Red Flames | Runs & Starts

When this 1999 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLTR rolled into our Chicago Heights shop, it brought plenty of character — and plenty of miles. Showing 87,485 miles, this carbureted Road Glide still starts and runs, but it clearly lived a rough life with its previous owners. The custom red paint with hand-laid flames gives the bike personality, but time and wear caught up with a lot of components.

As always, we went over the bike from front to back, grading every part for salvageability. We estimate that 65% of this motorcycle will be fully salvaged and cleaned, tagged, and listed in our inventory. All OEM pieces removed from this Road Glide are being stored, labeled, and documented so riders and repair shops around the world can keep their own FLTR builds alive and on the road.

This generation of Road Glide is legendary among touring riders for its rock-solid frame-mounted fairing, smooth V-twin power delivery, and dependable long-haul performance. Even with high miles, there are many excellent reusable components that enthusiasts rely on — from bodywork and controls to suspension, electrical, drivetrain, and touring hardware.
