We’re excited to begin teardown on this 1986 Yamaha XJ700S Maxim, a rare 700cc inline-four cruiser that bridges the gap between the XJ650 and XJ750. This bike shows 35,000 miles and will be completely disassembled down to the crankshaft here at our shop in Chicago Heights, IL (60411).
Condition-wise, we rate it a 6 out of 10 — but roughly 90% of the parts are clean and restorable. Expect plenty of OEM Yamaha chrome, black body panels, and solid engine internals to be available.
The XJ700S shares many parts with the XJ650, XJ750, and XJ900 — especially in electrical, carburetion, and transmission systems — making it a perfect donor bike for restorers and collectors.
